Tree Removal in Breslau

Tree work in Breslau and the surrounding part of Woolwich Township, from the new subdivisions to the older properties and acreages toward the Grand River.

Breslau is a different scale of tree job from a Kitchener back yard. The newer subdivisions have young trees and little work beyond the odd storm break, but the older village lots and the acreages toward the river carry mature maple, willow, poplar and ash, and the properties are big enough that a tree can sometimes be felled whole rather than dismantled, which changes the economics considerably. Access is usually better too, with room for a bucket truck or a crane without blocking a street. Two sets of rules matter here that do not come up in the city. Breslau is in Woolwich Township, so Kitchener's tree by-laws do not apply and the township's own requirements get confirmed for the address. And the larger properties often run into or border woodland, where the Region of Waterloo's Woodland Conservation By-law regulates cutting in any woodland of one hectare or more, and where the Regional Forester is the person to call before clearing more than a hazard tree or two. Properties along the Grand are checked against the GRCA's regulated-area mapping, and ash wood stays inside the CFIA regulated area as it does everywhere in the region.

Frequently asked questions

Do the Kitchener tree rules apply in Breslau?

No. Breslau is in the Township of Woolwich, so Kitchener's private and public tree by-laws stop at the city boundary and the township's own rules apply. The Region's Woodland Conservation By-law and the CFIA ash regulated area cover the whole region including Woolwich. We confirm what applies to the address before quoting.

Is there a travel charge for the townships?

No. Breslau and the properties around Kitchener are quoted on the same basis as the city. What moves a quote is the tree and the access, not the postal code.

Can you tell whether a tree is the City's or mine?

Often from the site visit, since boulevard trees sit in the road allowance between the sidewalk and the curb. Where there is no sidewalk or the tree is near the line, the City can confirm ownership, and we ask before anything is cut.
